KPF Principal Rebecca Cheng Retires After Career of Integral Leadership in the Asia-Pacific Region

KPF Principal Rebecca Cheng, leader of the firm’s Shanghai office, has announced her retirement as of July 30 after over two decades of loyal service to the firm and its clients. She will move on to become a Senior Adviser to the firm, acting in the role of special consultant for major projects.

“Rebecca’s leadership and vision have been foundational to KPF’s success in China,” said James von Klemperer, KPF President. “Her ability to build lasting relationships, deliver complex projects, and mentor the next generation of architects has left an indelible mark on our firm and the cities we serve. We are deeply grateful for her dedication and friendship and look forward to collaborating with her as a consultant moving forward.”

Leadership of the Shanghai office will be assumed by KPF Principals Florence Chan and Robert Whitlock, who have been responsible for some of the firm’s most significant work in the greater China region, including the Jingling Road development in Shanghai, the CITIC Tower in Beijing, and the Ping An Finance Centre in Shenzhen. Day-to-day operations will be handled by Yi Xiong and Manman Huang.

During her tenure at KPF, Rebecca played a pivotal role in the firm’s Shanghai work, guiding the delivery of landmark projects that have shaped the urban landscape during a period of transformative change. She led multiple projects in Lujiazhui, including NYU Shanghai, in Xintiandi, including CPIC Xintiandi Commercial Center, and in the North Bund, including the emerging North Bund (Lot 91) tower.

KPF thanks Rebecca for her extraordinary service to the firm, its projects, and its clients, and is committed to working with her in her new role to achieve architectural excellence.
