At the local chapter’s conferences held in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, both in KPF-designed buildings, Principals Peter Gross and Marianne Kwok spoke about regeneration and supertall design, while Director Florence Chan focused on Guangzhou One Pengrui.
“The Future of High-Density Cities in Asia: Regenerative, Intelligent, and Human-Centric” conference took place in both Hong Kong and Shenzhen, featuring paired sessions at each location. Both Peter and Marianne spoke in the first session of each conference, “Regenerative Future Cities,” with Peter speaking in Hong Kong on November 14 and Marianne in Shenzhen on November 16. The two discussed the shifting construction trend of developing greenfield sites to repurpose existing urban fabric. The purposeful implementation of new infrastructure and transformation of existing buildings are key to a city’s sustainable growth. Peter was joined by Cary Lau, Global Design Principal at Aedas; Lewis Lam, HKICC Property Manager at Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited; and Mun Summ Wong, Founding Director at WOHA Architects. Marianne was joined by Jim Tian, Operating Director at Otis Elevator Company; and Mun Summ Wong, Founding Director at WOHA Architects.
Additionally, both KPF leaders shared dedicated presentations at CTBUH events hosted at KPF-designed buildings. Peter delivered the speech “Rooting the Next Supertall – Scale, Context, and Identity” at the International Commerce Centre and Marianne spoke at One Shenzhen Bay, recounting the firm’s collaborations with the project developer ParkLand Real Estate.
At the Shenzhen event, Florence presented Guangzhou One Pengrui, a mixed-use development that launched sales on its residential units earlier this year. The project is located at the eastern end of the Guangzhou Finance City Master Plan and is defined by the elliptical shape of the buildings. The project’s developer ParkLand noted sale of One Pengrui units have broken the record on residential sales in Guangzhou.
