Drawing on KPF’s global aviation experience, the Director’s presentation will explore the evolving relationship between airport infrastructure and urban development.
Referencing KPF projects such as New Songdo City, Zayed International Airport, Changi Airport Terminal 5, and Bangalore Airport City, his talk will examine approaches to integrating major aviation hubs with the cities and communities they serve.
Emerging airport cities around the world are extending traditional neighborhood activation hours, providing financial support for broader aviation projects, and driving regional economic growth. Airport cities in the design stage now will become the world’s first truly 24/7 urban creations: experience engines and laboratories for future ideas on mobility, technology, and economic experiments. The leading edge of hospitality-focused design will create places which entice people to spend their most valuable commodity: time.
Shiju has been instrumental in KPF’s aviation practice, working on the design and delivery of two of the world’s largest and most technically demanding airport terminals. He was a key member of the site team overseeing the construction of Zayed International Airport, Terminal A, in Abu Dhabi and is currently Facility Lead for Changi Airport Terminal 5 in Singapore.
Shiju’s presentation will take place on September 23, 2:20-2:40pm SGT, with the conference spanning September 23-24 at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre in Singapore.
