Mount Sinai Tisch Cancer Hospital Breaks Ground in New York City

Construction begins on the KPF-designed cancer care facility, ushering in a transformation of The Mount Sinai Hospital campus on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Earlier this month, members of the KPF design team joined Mount Sinai Health System leadership in a ceremony celebrating the project’s progress. The adaptive reuse design repositions a 1962 building on the campus into a 300,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility. When completed, the center will include a dedicated Oncology Care Unit, 72 acuity-adaptable patient rooms, and wellness amenities for inpatients and outpatients.

The design upgrades the buildings’ outdated facade with a high-performance terracotta curtainwall with larger, triple height windows. Clinical floors benefit from ample natural light and views of the surrounding neighborhood, while a redesigned street presence and arrival sequence improve the experience for patients, families, and staff. Slated for completion in 2029, the Mount Sinai Tisch Cancer Hospital is a step closer to materializing Mount Sinai’s bold vision for the future of cancer care in New York and beyond.
