Richard (Hyun Soo) Kim AIA LEED AP
Director
Richard has designed a number of the firm’s most high-profile commercial, mixed-use, residential, and cultural projects throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. His design strength lies in his diverse experience working on a variety of project types and scales, each time paying close attention to both context and detail.
Contextual Urbanism
Richard’s deep focus on craft and contextual design is evident across an expansive portfolio of residential and mixed-use projects around the world. Parkside Seoul, in Korea, combines hotel, residential, and office buildings into a cohesive whole connected by a series of interlinked courtyards. Platform 16 in San Jose is an energy-efficient groundscraper designed to support work-life balance in a growing tech hub. The strikingly angular façade of SCOPE Langsuan identifies the luxury condominium on Bangkok’s skyline, while the translucent, billowing form of Chongqing Central Mix-C references that city’s mountainous topography and climate to create a high-end shopping experience rooted in local identity.

Managing Large-Scale Complexity
Richard has leveraged his expertise with large-scale, complex projects in the design of the world’s largest airport facility, Singapore’s Changi Terminal 5, which, despite its great size, modulates interior scale while incorporating greenery and natural light to create a best-in-class passenger experience. He contributed two large office buildings to a major mixed-use development in Bangkok and served as design director of 570 Fifth Avenue, a Class-A office tower with high sustainability aspirations in the heart of New York City.
