The KPF Principal used case studies from the studio’s portfolio to illustrate solutions to challenges cities face across the globe.
John’s presentation titled, “Intensity, Innovation, and Transformation – A Global View” explored three themes: the role of mixed-use development and experience intensity in sustaining urban vitality, for example at Hudson Yards; how architecture can drive knowledge and innovation economies, as demonstrated in projects such as Channelside in Boston; and the potential for transformational, adaptive reuse to address challenges of the climate emergency, as seen at Southbank Tower in London.
John’s design approach is rooted in a detailed analysis of context and scale. A long-time advocate for architectural reuse, he builds diverse expert teams to deliver projects that weave sustainable details and materiality into the transformation of inclusive districts and cities.
