John Bushell and Sam Cooke Present at the CTBUH Europe Conference in Amsterdam

The Session titled “Carbon Solutions Part I” explored the transformation of Panorama St Paul’s.

The deep retrofit and extension of Panorama St Paul’s has retained approximately 70% of the building’s original structure, reused high-quality stone from the existing façade, and increased floor area by 96%. As modelled, the embodied carbon of the buildings’ shell and core represents a 28% reduction compared to an equivalent-sized new build. Panorama St Paul’s is targeting BREEAM “Outstanding,” Wired “Platinum,” and NABERS 5-star ratings.

KPF Design Principal John Bushell is a long-time advocate of adaptive reuse and has led some of KPF’s most important transformation projects in London and continental Europe. KPF Director Sam Cooke is the project manager for the deep retrofit of Bush House South West Wing, a historic building on the King’s College campus.

John and Sam were joined by: Julia Kohler, Senior Structural Consultant at CREE GmbH; Marvin Vollbracht, Project Sales manager at Peikko; Marion Charlier, Advanced Building Solutions & Sustainability Lead at ArcelorMittal; and Hugues Lefevre, Product Manager at AGC Glass Europe. The presentation was followed by a group Q&A.

CTBUH Europe was held at De Duif, Amsterdam, Netherlands from June 3-5.
