Lauren Schmidt AIA LEED AP BD+C
Principal
Lauren brings invaluable technical expertise to the execution of some of the firm’s most notable projects. An expert in adaptive reuse, she has delivered repositioning projects that overcome complex site conditions and meet rigorous performance criteria while uplifting their urban contexts.
Technical Delivery
Working extensively in New York City, Lauren’s broad base of technical knowledge is critical in formulating sensitive design responses to challenging site conditions and deftly accommodating existing infrastructural and transit systems through architecturally integrated solutions. Lauren’s projects, such as 55 Hudson Yards, a LEED Gold–certified office building that sits atop an active railyard, set high standards for efficiency and occupant experience.
Re-imagination and Re-use
Having led some of KPF’s most ambitious adaptive reuse and renovation projects, Lauren is an expert at aligning existing structures with contemporary expectations for performance through interventions that range from re-cladding to multi-story overbuilds. Drawing insight from each project, Lauren develops sensitive and bespoke solutions to each building’s specific conditions and every client’s unique needs. Projects such as Hudson Commons, which inserts a state-of-the-art office tower atop an existing podium, and 660 Fifth Avenue, the re-cladding of an under-performing office tower, demonstrate the transformative power of her approach.
