Josh Chaiken AIA

Principal

Josh’s work is defined by an acute sensibility for the experience of the individual, demonstrated across multiple scales from the careful composition of urban spaces and mixed-use developments to the delivery of award-winning hotels for leading brands around the world.

Unrivaled Hospitality

With extensive experience working with hospitality clients, such as Park Hyatt, Langham, and Andaz, Josh has unique insight into creating hotels that make a statement through elegant architectural expression while meeting rigorous programmatic requirements. His design for the Park Hyatt Suzhou draws on contextual forms to offer guests a refined interpretation of the local landscape, while the Otemachi Tower, in Tokyo, integrates full-service hospitality in the form of the five-star Aman Tokyo hotel—often cited among world’s best hotels—into an elegant headquarters building.

Neighborhood Composition

Always attentive to the pedestrian experience, Josh creates carefully crafted mixed-use urban environments across multiple contexts, from the United States to Asia. These projects leverage a mixture of uses to support urban vibrancy and establish new connections within the urban fabric. His work on East Bank, in Nashville, establishes a mixed-use, pedestrian-scaled neighborhood adjacent to a significant stadium development, reimagining an existing sea of parking lots as a dynamic district connecting major attractions and the city’s dynamic downtown. In Shanghai, Fusion New Bund weaves office, hotel, and amenity functions together across multiple pedestrian levels, establishing linkages between disparate developments within a rapidly urbanizing district.
