Located in the city’s Xintiandi business district, the firm’s Shanghai office was the first in the neighborhood to receive the platinum certification, the program’s highest level.
Following the opening of the renovated KPF Shanghai office last fall, the firm continues to prioritize wellness and sustainability both within the office and in practice. The updated space includes natural materials such as wood in the elevator lobby and reception area, plants throughout the studio and conference rooms, and all desks positioned within a 5-meter range of windows. Located on the fifth and sixth floors, employees can use daylit staircases, rather than rely on elevators, to travel between floors. An outdoor terrace is outfitted with exercise machinery.
In addition to KPF Shanghai’s certification, the KPF New York office received the WELL Health-Safety Seal in 2021, becoming the first architecture firm in the United States to earn the certification. Expanding beyond the firm’s offices, a large selection of KPF projects are WELL certified, including Hudson Yards, CITIC Tower, and One Shenzhen Bay.
The WELL certification is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health and well-being across 10 categories. Learn more about WELL certifications here and KPF’s Shanghai office here.
