Following an international design competition, KPF has been named as the architect for the first residential community at New Murabba, a Public Investment Fund (PIF) Company.
New Murabba, Riyadh’s new downtown, aims to set a global benchmark for sustainable, human-centric urbanism that blends technology and innovation. The first residential community’s opening phase includes the delivery of approximately 2 million m² of GFA across 53 plots. The development will feature luxury residential, hospitality, retail, and leisure uses alongside an extensive public realm, green corridors, and iconic plazas with direct views of The Mukaab, a 400-meter-high, wide, and deep architectural landmark anchoring the development.
KPF’s design concept advances the language of courtyard urbanism and harmonizes tradition and modernity in a contextually sensitive design. The community is designed to create a procession toward the Mukaab and extend the influence of this landmark throughout the masterplan. The plans propose a neighbourhood with buildings of various scales and a mix of public and semi-private spaces, anchored by a gateway plaza.
James von Klemperer, FAIA RIBA, President of KPF:
“We are delighted to be working with New Murabba on this transformative project. Mirroring the ethos of the broader development’s forward looking planning strategies, KPF will combine global expertise, collaborative partnerships, and deep local knowledge to give shape to one of the world’s most exciting urban expansions.”
Mustafa Chehabeddine, AL, Design Principal at KPF:
“This is a wonderful opportunity and a testament to the talent and dedication of the design team as well as the vision of New Murabba. As the opening phase of this master plan, the first residential community will set the direction for the downtown development. Our plans are designed to amplify the influence of the Mukaab, extending the experience intensity throughout the district and establishing a strong, sustainable, connected community.”
