Last month, KPF representatives, including Principal Florence Chan and Director Yee Tak Lau, attended the project’s opening ceremony, marking the debut of the KPF-designed public space and a new chapter in the Shenzhen’s waterfront development.
Set within the Houhai Central Business District, THE WAVE sits adjacent to the KPF-designed China Resources Tower, and features a circular sunken plaza, standalone buildings, and interactive natural elements. The area is envisioned as a “slow” space within Shenzhen’s busy cityscape, offering a place for people to gather, linger, and connect. Water features—including fountains, water curtains, and still pools—introduce both movement and tranquility, enriching the spatial experience and incorporating moments of nature into the heart of the city. THE WAVE’s careful composition creates a visual and spatial dialogue with the surrounding district, integrating the new development into the urban fabric of Shenzhen Bay and providing views of the waterfront.
