On October 18, the public is invited to experience two distinct KPF projects through exclusive guided tours as part of the annual Open House New York Weekend.
Over the course of the day, KPF Principal Hana Kassem, Director Devin Ratliff, and Associate Principal Mustafa Khan will join representatives from NYCHA and the Public Housing Community Fund for the Red Hook Resilience & Art Walk in Brooklyn. This guided walk offers a firsthand look at the city’s largest public-housing resiliency program. Participants will encounter vibrant public art—such as the resident-created “Red Hook Dreams” mural—and tour the new, flood-resilient steam plant, the largest of its kind in NYCHA’s portfolio. KPF’s design team will share insights into the FEMA-funded infrastructure upgrades, including elevated critical systems and centralized backup power, demonstrating how art, engineering, and community engagement are shaping the future of affordable housing and climate resilience in Red Hook. Tours will begin at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 18.
Led by KPF Associate Principal Chandler Archbell, the tours of One Madison Avenue will explore the innovative mega-column system that supports an 18-story tower atop a revitalized mid-century podium. Visitors will learn how the design retains 67% of the original structure, preserving embodied energy and connection to the neighborhood’s historic fabric. Tours will begin at 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM on Saturday, October 18.
