Hana Kassem and Carlos Cerezo Davila Present NYCHA Red Hook Houses at 2025 Waterfront Conference

The KPF Principal and KPF Global Director of Sustainability co-led a discussion on the NYCHA Red Hook Houses resiliency project and its viability as a model for other cities and regions struggling with rising sea levels.

Now in its 18th year, the Waterfront Conference, organized by the Waterfront Alliance, is a venue for critical conversations about the future of climate resilience for waterfronts and coastlines. More than 600 participants, including policymakers, community leaders, scientists, engineers, architects, academics, and environmental advocates, as well as professionals from labor, real estate, insurance, and financial services took part.

Hana’s experience leading the NYCHA Red Hook Houses project in the wake of Hurricane Sandy’s devastation of the Brooklyn waterfront, as well as Carlos’ insights on KPF’s approach to sustainable design, were valuable resources as forum participants discussed models of development for vulnerable urban coastlines. Vincent Lee, Principal at Arup, and Richard Roark, PLA, ASLA, CPO and Partner at OLIN, joined Hana and Carlos for this conversation.

The event took place on May 13 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage with Carlos and Hana’s panel beginning at 11:10am. Learn more here.
