The KPF Director will discuss the design and engineering behind the conical headquarters tower at the Design and Application of Architectural Façade (DAF) Building Skin Conference in Shenzhen.
Aligned with the conference’s theme of “A Sense of Agility – Special-Shaped Buildings and Curtain Walls,” China Resources Tower is inspired by the winter bamboo shoot, featuring a light, stable, and fast-to-erect tube and diagrid system expressed in its tapered, sculptural form. The tower’s 56 vertical columns converge into 28 at the lower and upper sections, creating an overall radial symmetry with a series of entry portals at the base and a singular point at its peak. At the column junctures, faceted, triangular glass panels illuminate at night across Shenzhen’s waterfront business district.
The two-day conference will conduct an in-depth analysis of iconic building envelopes from three dimensions: architectural design, curtain wall deepening, and curtain wall construction. The KPF tower exemplifies not only striking façade design, but also an innovative approach to supertall construction with prefabricated column and steel units to accelerate and simplify the process.
Florence’s presentation will take place on September 20 at 3:10pm local time. Find out more and register to attend here.
