Guangzhou’s first MixC officially opened September 30 with KPF Principals Hugh Trumbull and Florence Chan, Senior Associate Principal Luke Lu, and Associate Principal Xianyan Gong in attendance.
Guangzhou Bai’etan MixC is located in the Bai’etan Business Core Area, at the confluence of the three tributaries of the Pearl River, facing Shamian Island, a popular historic district across the river. One of the five world-class landmark commercial districts that Guangzhou is prioritizing for development, it sits at the nexusof multiple inter-city rail and metro lines. For this project, KPF was responsible for the master planning, conceptual design of the commercial layout, as well as the form and façade design of the 1.6 million-square-foot building.
Guangzhou Bai’etan MixC’s form resembles a shell gently unfolding along the banks of the Pearl River, presenting the city with a view inside the retail complex, to the rich array of indoor and outdoor spaces. The project marks a continuation of KPF’s long-standing partnership with China Resources Land and represents a major destination for Guangzhou.
