On March 6, the KPF President and Principal took the stage at the NYU Stern Real Estate Club’s annual conference, sharing his vision for the future of mixed-use high-rise design through the case study of 520 Fifth Avenue.
Jamie’s lecture offered attendees a glimpse into the thinking behind some of the most ambitious projects shaping today’s skylines, including 520 Fifth Avenue, KPF’s landmark supertall currently rising at the corner of 43rd Street and Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The 88-story vertical village—reaching 1,000 feet above the New York streetscape—redefines the live-work paradigm through a classically inspired, 21st-century architectural language. Arched facades modulate massing and differentiate the tower from its all-glass neighbors, while a tripartite loggia at street level is a subtle reference to the building’s three programmatic divisions. Embodying the overarching message of Jamie’s presentation, 520 Fifth Avenue is a testament to KPF’s belief that tall buildings carry a civic responsibility not only to their tenants, but to the city’s skyline. Jamie was joined by Josh Rabina, President and CEO of Rabina Properties, on a panel taking place 5:30 to 6:15 PM local time.
A regular lecturer at leading universities, Jamie brings a global perspective and a dedication to craft to every project, from 64 University Place’s contextual brick arches to One Vanderbilt‘s terra cotta detailing. The NYU Stern Real Estate Club’s “Powering the Future” conference provided an ideal forum to explore how architecture, sustainability, and real estate development can converge to build more equitable, connected, and inspired cities.
