The KPF President and Principal will deliver a lecture about the projects and ideas that shaped public housing design in New York City and Vienna, connecting that history to today’s push for better housing.
In his lecture, “From the Commune to the City: Progressive Public Housing in Vienna & New York, 1930 – Today,” Jamie will trace the key projects—including KPF’s FEMA funded resiliency and repair project for the NYCHA Red Hook Houses—figures, and design movements that have shaped public housing in both cities over nearly a century. The talk is part of “Vienna/New York: Urban Centers in the Rise of Democracy since 1848,” a two-day conference organized with the NYU Remarque Institute, the Vienna Institute for Culture and Contemporary History and Arts, and the University of Vienna.
