On December 16, the mixed-use development marked the milestone with a ribbon cutting ceremony in Shanghai’s Huangpu District—with KPF Principal Rob Whitlock in attendance alongside city leaders and project partners.
Located on the historic Dongtai Road, the CPIC Xintiandi Commercial Center integrates retail, office space, preserved historic buildings, and public cultural venues into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly destination. The retail component, Xintiandi Dongtaili, harmonizes with the neighborhood’s unique character, featuring a rich palette of materials and a 6,500-square-meter panoramic canopy that creates comfortable, semi-outdoor public spaces. KPF’s urban planning and architectural design have shaped a development that prioritizes human-scale experiences and connectivity, setting a new benchmark for mixed-use projects in Shanghai.
The opening ceremony brought together city officials, development partners, and the design team to celebrate the expansion of the Xintiandi community. Covered retail streets evoke the memory of the historic Dong Tai Lu ‘Antique Street,’ while the 250-meter Signature Tower anchors the skyline with its curvilinear form and distinctive white metal fins. With sustainability at its core, the Signature Tower is designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification, and the other office buildings target LEED Gold. The CPIC Xintiandi Commercial Center injects new vitality into the Huangpu District and offers a model for future urban renewal in the city.
