On May 15, the KPF Director joined global leaders in tall building design to discuss how new façade materials and design techniques can support sustainability.
Yi Xiong’s work on North Bund Lot 91, a KPF-designed supertall that will be Shanghai’s first—and the world’s tallest—all-electric skyscraper upon completion, served as an important case study for his panel’s discussion of sustainable façade design. The panel explored how breakthroughs in material innovation and ecological technology continue to improve the energy efficiency and indoor environments of tall buildings. North Bund Lot 91, for example, relies on a highly insulative façade optimized to reduce solar heat gain to enable all-electric operations. Yi Xiong joined Li Chunchao, Marketing Director of NorthGlass; Bai Feng, Curtain Wall Design Director of China Resources Land; Zhang Xushen, Director of MVRDV Shanghai Office; Menggenbaoligao, Director of ECADI; and Yin Jia, Technical Director of EFC, on the panel.
Focused on “The New Trends in Sustainable Building Skins,” this year’s CTBUH Shanghai conference gathered representatives from the design firms, urban organizations, and developers currently shaping the landscape of Shanghai. The event provided a forum to share experiences from professional practice, exchange forward-looking ideas, and jointly explore the future development trends of high-rise building skins.
The conference will take place on May 15 at the Suhewan Center in Shanghai, with Yi Xiong’s panel beginning at 4:50pm local time. Learn more and register to attend here.
