KPF Participates in the 2024 AIA International Conference in Hong Kong

As part of the conference, James von Klemperer gave a lecture titled “Building Innovation Districts” and Florence Chan moderated a panel discussing “TOD and Connectivity” before guiding a tour of Victoria Dockside.

Continuing a discussion initiated at the MIT World Real Estate Forum, the KPF President discussed Innovation Districts and how they can be designed efficiently and effectively. Jamie’s speech addressed how the same architectural principles and techniques used to encourage interdisciplinary thinking in academic buildings, collaboration in office buildings, or program synergies in neighborhood spaces can help architects inspire innovation at the urban scale. Jamie presented on October 25 at Cloud 39, The Hendersen in Hong Kong.

On October 24, KPF Director Florence Chan moderated a conference panel focused on transit-oriented design (TOD) and urban connectivity, design principles exemplified by KPF’s Victoria Dockside on Kowloon Peninsula. The panel addressed how the Hong Kong MTR became a leader in TOD and community development with over 40 years of experience in operating a rail-plus-property business model. The Kowloon Station is one of the most successful examples of such developments by the MTR and is well integrated into the circulation of Victoria Dockside. Alongside Jeff Tung of New World Group, Florence took interested AIA members on a guided tour of the mixed-use development as an activity offered on the first day of the conference. The art and design district comprises hotel, office, and cultural components knit together with outdoor public space and gardens, reactivating the waterfront public realm.
