KPF welcomed leading urban planners and industry experts to its New York headquarters for a dynamic panel discussion exploring the future of sustainable and livable global cities.
On October 23, the “Sustainable and Livable Smart Global Cities for the Future” panel brought together distinguished voices from New York and Hong Kong. Moderated by KPF Director Grace Liao, the event featured KPF President and Principal James von Klemperer as a panelist, Jeff Ho (Senior Town Planner, Planning Department, HKSAR Government), Dr. Peter Cookson Smith (Founder, Urbis Ltd.), Rebecca Wong (Planning Director, Sun Hung Kei Real Estate Agency Ltd.), Tracy Wong (Senior Town Planner, Planning Department, HKSAR Government), and Theresa Yeung (President, Hong Kong Institute of Planners; Managing Principal, East Asia, Ove Arup & Partners Hong Kong Ltd.) Panelists addressed the growing challenges facing global cities, including climate change, global competition, aging populations, and shifts in working patterns driven by the COVID-19 pandemic and rapid technological advancement.
Participants shared real-world insights on green building initiatives, sustainable energy systems, and the adoption of smart technologies, emphasizing the importance of people-centric planning and compact city models. Co-organized by the Hong Kong Association of New York, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, and Invest Hong Kong, the event provided a platform for exchanging strategies and ideas to balance opportunity with challenge in the pursuit of world-class city standards.
