Kellogg School of Management Building Breaks Ground at Northwestern University

Earlier this month, The Kellogg School of Management and Northwestern University held a groundbreaking ceremony for the KPF-designed educational building in Evanston, Illinois.

The new building, which is expected to open to students in fall 2027, is designed to support seamless global engagement and hybrid learning through advanced technology. The building aims to unite students, faculty, alumni, and business leaders worldwide and will be connected to the existing Kellogg Global Hub via an underground corridor. The construction emphasizes sustainability, with materials from the replaced Allen Center being recycled for the new project.

“At Northwestern excellence is a given, but what sets this building apart is its spirit—its rootedness in this place, its embrace of the beauty of the lakefront, its commitment to energy efficiency, to universal accessibility, and to the wellbeing of its occupants,” said KPF Design Principal Hana Kassem. “This building will stand as a symbol of the global reach and the personal touch that defines Kellogg’s executive education; and it will do so with grace, with boldness and with unmistakable presence—rooted here, along the shores of Lake Michigan, yet connected to the world.”

“The Kellogg Education Center will elevate the renowned business school’s ability to expand its global reach, providing exceptional teaching spaces and cutting-edge technology,” said KPF Managing Principal Jill Lerner. “Collaborating with Kellogg’s visionary leadership has inspired a design that not only complements the Kellogg Global Hub, but also creates a distinctive and unified presence along the shores of Lake Michigan.”

Attended by KPF project team leaders, including Hana and Jill as well as Directors David Ottavio and Rachel Villalta, the ceremony convened University leadership and Kellogg representatives as well as donors and school supporters at the Evanston construction site.
