The new facility at the Kellogg School of Management is a state-of-the-art education facility that integrates high-tech, hybrid learning environments with amenities and guestrooms to provide an engaging residency experience for students and visiting professionals to learn, network, and advance their careers.
The building will serve as the new home for Kellogg’s executive education programming while also being utilized by students across all Kellogg programs. It will provide cutting-edge academic spaces and a direct connection to the adjacent Kellogg Global Hub, creating a unified Kellogg Campus. The Global Classroom, a central 360-degree space optionally divisible into two semi-circular parts, brings together large numbers of students in a highly collaborative in-person and virtual environment. The facility offers an efficient and adaptable set of spaces to the university campus that foster interpersonal academic connections and expand access to Kellogg’s elite business education programs.
The seven-story building includes seven dining halls, 160 guest rooms for program participants, cutting-edge production studios, ten state-of-the-art classrooms, and over 10,000 square feet of group study space. The ground floor is anchored by a main lobby with direct connections to multiple dining facilities and outdoor patios overlooking Lake Michigan. A double height promenade connects the second and third floors, which house classrooms and the sunlit Executive Club space. Guestrooms are punctuated by lounges for socializing opportunities and occupy the uppermost floors, providing a level of privacy from the busier academic spaces.
The project leverages a beautiful lakefront site to create an education center that embodies sustainability and wellness. Biophilic design features throughout the building from the use of natural materials, to patterns and forms found in nature. The gentle setbacks and fluid form of the building’s design reference the waterfront employing glass to amplify the water’s color and reflections; while a limestone façade along the west side relates to the earlier adjacent campus buildings. A landscaped terrace above the promenade, reserved for program participants, offers views overlooking the lake and outdoor pockets of spaces for reflection and relaxation.
