In “More From Less: 33 Cavendish Square” the KPF Principal outlined the retrofit strategy for a major redevelopment on Oxford Street.
Through the lens of 33 Cavendish Square, the talk explored the potential of retrofit-first thinking. For the parts of the building that could not be retained, cutting-edge slab design and innovative concrete mixes minimize structural depth and maximize reuse of material from the demolished structure. The client and design teams’ ambition is to push the reuse of concrete as far as possible to enable future projects to follow suit. John brought his expertise to the panel which included Sarah Pellereau of Elliot Wood, Peter Pulford of BEAM, and Francesco Ranaudo of Vaulted. The discussion was chaired by Ian Poole of Elliott Wood.
