The KPF Principal joins the panel, “Building for the Market: Development and Design in a Supply-Constrained London,” exploring how development and design are responding to changing priorities in the capital’s office market.
With major occupiers committing to space years ahead of completion, John will consider how architects can design for requirements that may evolve—even between concept design and occupation. Drawing on KPF’s workplace projects in London and internationally, he will discuss the importance of flexibility and adaptability in creating buildings that can respond to changing tenant needs to remain relevant over the long term.
John will also explore the shifting balance between refurbishment and redevelopment. As refurbishment represents a growing proportion of London’s development pipeline, the discussion will consider when retaining an existing building offers the strongest commercial and environmental solution, and when the constraints of an existing structure may limit its future performance.
Moderated by Simon Elliot of Greenberg Traurig, John will be joined by Charlie Green of Workspace Group, Tom Smithers of Ashby Capital, Ilna Patel of Nuveen, and Richard Taylor of Workman LLP.
Together, these questions will inform a wider conversation around how the built environment industry can deliver workplaces that respond to immediate market demand while anticipating how occupiers, cities, and environmental priorities will continue to evolve.
