Spring City 66

Kunming Dongfeng Plaza

Setting a new standard for dynamic mixed-use development in Kunming, Spring City 66 draws inspiration from the city’s history as a prosperous mercantile center and honors the natural beauty of its unique landscape.

At the heart of Spring City 66, a landscaped promenade recalls the region’s lush valleys, while an undulating retail podium and crag-like towers nod to the notable limestone formations of the nearby Kunming Stone Forest. The three program types – retail, office, and serviced apartments – are woven together on multiple levels of terraces around the promenade. These connective terraces are lined with shops and restaurants to create a vibrant destination whose sum is greater than the individual parts.

The landscape of Spring City 66 incorporates a mixture of hardscape, lawn, and natural plantings throughout the site, taking full advantage of Kunming’s favorable climate, which makes it a pleasant place to spend time outdoors for most of the year. The promenade is designed as a lush lawn striated with paving patterns, linear rows of trees, and various species of plants. Vegetation is carried up the buildings through planted building edges, terraces, and occupiable landscaped roofs. Located adjacent to two major thoroughfares and subway lines, Spring City 66’s accessibility and location among public amenities integrate this high-density mixed-use destination into the urban fabric of Kunming.
