The Real Deal Ranks KPF in Top 5 New York Architects for Alteration Projects

The publication’s May 2025 issue lists KPF in a round-up of architecture firms involved in adaptive reuse and retrofit work in New York City.

An outsized theme in recent discussions of real estate and development trends, reviving outdated building stock through tailored alterations and renovations is a highly sustainable method of meeting market demand. KPF’s work on projects such as One Madison Avenue, an ambitious repositioning project that updates an existing, mid-century podium and adds a new tower above, delivering Class-A office space to the Flatiron District, and 245 Park Avenue, the modernization of one of the few buildings in New York to require its own zip code, has honed the firm’s approach to this emerging typology.

The Real Deal’s ranking of “NYC’s Top Architects for Alteration Projects” is informed by the number of permits issued by the New York City Department of Buildings as well as the total estimated cost of each firm’s design work in this typology.
