The airport operator celebrated the honor at the 30th World Travel Awards, closing out a year full of milestones, led by the opening of the KPF-designed terminal.
Abu Dhabi Airports operates five airports including the International Airport, home to the recently finished Terminal A. The terminal, which Time Out Abu Dhabi called “the jewel in the crown” in the article announcing the award, welcomed its first passengers in November. While the ceremonial flight featured only a few dozen people, at full capacity the terminal can handle up to 45 million travelers per year. The building is raised above the road level and, in combination with its illuminated interior, is instantly recognizable on the horizon to drivers on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway, which links the UAE’s two largest cities. Following its inclusion in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the terminal has secured its status as a landmark.
Muna Al Ghanim, Abu Dhabi Airports’ Vice President of Customer Experience and Relationship Management, accepted the award at the ceremony where she shared, “This accolade is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, especially in a year of significant advancements.”
