Rutger Huiberts Speaks on Regenerative Design at CTBUH 2024 Asia Conference

The KPF Director will participate in a discussion on regenerative design in South East Asia using examples of sustainable mixed-use architecture at the annual Council on Tall Buildings and the Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Asia conference, held this year in Bangkok, Thailand.

The conference will address topics such as sustainable transport infrastructure, the challenge of limited public space, integrating sophisticated developments into the city, leveraging technology, and designing for climate resilience. Rutger’s contribution, as a part of Track B: Regenerative Design and Nature-Based Solutions, will bridge much of the event’s subject matter and provide a strong example of how architects can look to nature for future-ready design inspiration.

Illustrating KPF’s commitment to sustainability, Rutger will share part of his experience re-designing the Commerce Centre into the new Singtel Headquarters in Singapore as a case study in performance-oriented, contextual, and nature-infused architecture. As the project’s Senior Designer, he will discuss the innovative combination of high- and low-tech strategies that the project employs to achieve the highest level of sustainability certifications, including Green Mark Super Low Energy and WELL Platinum.

Located in the dense urban environment of Singapore, Singtel Headquarters reduces the urban heat island effect with generous, multi-leveled landscaping and vertical greenery. The project is expressed as a combination of high-performance design for the office towers, and a podium design that draws inspiration from the way local historical architecture deals with the hot and humid climate. The podium expands the public realm to pedestrians by enriching the neighborhood with a mixture of cultural, retail, educational, and wellness programs. A highly efficient blend of passive design and active, cutting-edge sustainability measures work in tandem to create an environmentally responsible addition to the city.

The panel discussion will take place on December 3 at 1:40pm local time, learn more and register to attend here.
