One Madison Avenue Receives Honorable Mention in Inaugural Architectural Record Awards

KPF’s adaptive reuse of One Madison Avenue has been recognized with an Honorable Mention in the inaugural Architectural Record Awards, announced at the 2025 Innovation Conference in New York City.

One Madison Avenue stands as a benchmark for adaptive reuse and sustainable design in Manhattan’s Flatiron District. KPF’s transformation retains 67% of the original mid-century podium, dramatically reducing embodied energy and introducing a new tower with over an acre of outdoor space and landscaped terraces overlooking Madison Square Park. The project features a restored limestone façade, high-performance curtainwall, and flexible, Class-A office interiors, achieving a forecasted energy reduction of over 60% against the AIA 2030 Commitment baseline. Designed to comply with NYC’s Local Law 97 emission targets, One Madison Avenue establishes a thoughtful dialogue between historic architecture and contemporary values.

Architectural Record, the industry’s longest-running and most authoritative publication, launched its first annual awards program this fall to celebrate design excellence and innovation in architecture. Following September’s announcement of those recognized in the award program’s three individual distinctions, including KPF’s Global Director of Sustainability Carlos Cerezo Davila as Rising Professional of the year, the winning projects and individuals were announced at the Architectural Record Innovation Conference on October 30, a full-day event that brought together leaders shaping the future of the built environment. The awards were toasted at a cocktail reception following the conference, celebrating the achievements of this year’s honorees.
