Principal Jill Lerner and Managing Director David Ottavio joined the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business for the opening of its Los Angeles campus.
Located at The Grand LA, the 20,000-square-foot campus establishes an intellectual and social hub to bring together the West Coast Michigan Ross community. Its unique layout of three separate spaces connected by an exterior terrace takes advantage of its position at the heart of the Grand Avenue District in Los Angeles—directly across from Frank Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall. The project creates a new home for the Executive MBA Program and Executive Education programs, connected to regional industries of entertainment, technology, finance, entrepreneurship, and real estate.
Key program elements include classrooms, study rooms, collaborative workspaces, and both indoor and outdoor event areas that reinterpret the Michigan Ross brand with a rich material palette and a refined aesthetic infused with art. Sharon Matusik, Dean of the Steven M. Ross School of Business, spoke at the opening ceremony: “Michigan Ross Los Angeles is more than a new campus. It’s a new platform for connection, learning, innovation, and impact. We couldn’t have picked a better place to extend the Michigan Ross experience and to build something new together.”
The KPF team worked with Michigan Ross through the campus’s design and delivery, part of an ongoing relationship between the firm and the University of Michigan that began with the school’s Ann Arbor campus, which was completed in two phases in 2012 and 2019.
