On October 10, the KPF President delivered a lecture about architectural practices to create the cities of the future at the Italian real estate company’s 50th anniversary celebration “Inspiring Cities.”
Entitled “Layering the City,” Jamie’s presentation led the audience through KPF techniques for improving the urban realm through layering typologies, uses, cultural precedents, and more. From infrastructure integration, modeled by KPF’s work on One Vanderbilt in New York City, to program-led design, exemplified by the adaptive reuse project at 8 Canada Square in London, he discussed ways architecture and design can renew and improve the modern city. Joined at the event by industry, academic, and political leaders from Italy and beyond, Jamie contributed to a far-reaching celebration of cities and those who contribute to them.
Inspiring Cities, marking COIMA’s 50th anniversary, brings together experts in the creation, improvement, management, and impact of cities to inspire a new wave of work in this field. The event was accompanied by a book and student-driven hackathon, incorporating the new generation of urban thinkers and bringing the event’s intellectual value to a wider audience. The event was held at Villaggio Olimpico in Milan on October 10, with Jamie taking the stage at 11am following a presentation from Milan’s Università Cattolica del Sacre Cuore.
