Grace Liao Presents Tower 36 at Zak World of Façades Miami

On May 16, the KPF Director spoke about the team’s approach to designing an office tower fit for Miami’s Design District.

At the gateway of Miami Beach, Tower 36 is the tallest office tower in the district at 635 feet. Considering the project’s location adjacent to the city’s Design District, the KPF team aimed to create an architectural icon that unites wellness, nature, and art. In her presentation, Grace went in-depth into the façade design, which takes inspiration from the local flora and includes nods to the city’s vibrant arts and culture scene. Additionally, the team was guided by iterative sustainability analyses in the crafting of the tapered tower’s glass façade. At the podium level, a layered pattern of aluminum panels conveys a sense of motion and forms a screen to naturally ventilate the parking garage within. Referencing Miami’s ubiquitous palm trees, the wall’s metal fins are dual toned with a warm copper interior and a silver exterior.

The Zak World of Façades conference on May 16 was the 149th edition globally, and the first held in Miami. Presentations were held at the Four Seasons Brickell, with Grace’s session beginning at 1:50 pm. Learn more here.
