Florence Chan Presents HKUST(GZ)’s Carbon Neutral-Ready Design

On September 22nd, the KPF Director joined the live stream event “Zero-Carbon Plan,” where she discussed the sustainability design of the recently opened university campus.

With a particular focus on public building, the event marked the second anniversary of China’s “Double Carbon” commitment, the country’s goal to reach carbon emissions peak in 2030 and become carbon neutral before 2060. Florence provided insight into the design of the carbon neutral-ready camps at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), which opened earlier this month. The design of the research and learning campus allows for a 54% reduction in carbon emissions from day one and a goal of achieving carbon neutrality before 2060, with an additional goal of zero water waste.

Florence was joined by Mr. Li Linxue, Professor of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University and host architect of Linhe Architecture Studio (ATELIER L+); Ms. Pan Yiqun, Professor of the School of Mechanical and Energy Engineering of Tongji University; and Ms. Shen Yizhu, Founder and CEO of Xuyi Building Technology.

The event, which attracted more than 15,000 viewers, took place virtually on September 22nd from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM China Standard Time. Learn more here and watch the recording here.
