KPF’s fifth project for TP-LINK, and the third to be completed, the R&D and Logistics Facility continues the firm’s exploration of workplaces tailored to TP-LINK’s culture, spirit, and operational needs, with a renewed focus on place and the relationships between interior space, landscape, and the outdoors.
Referencing the historic courtyard typology of Hangzhou, the building’s organization enhances the connection between interior spaces and nature. Two courtyards are offset in section, forming an active, figure-eight configuration that links shared amenity areas at their base and provides continuous circulation at the roof level. The ground level activates the edges of both courtyards, with retail, dining, and shared amenities drawing employees through the building and out into the landscape. Workspaces enjoy views inward to the courtyards and outward toward White Horse Lake, reinforcing a sense of connection between people, place, and nature.
The façade is finely tuned to provide shading, reduce glare, and allow natural airflow, while the building massing is oriented to channel prevailing winds and daylight through the interior. To allow for efficient operations, loading docks and service areas are thoughtfully separated from the primary workplace entries and pedestrian circulation. A rooftop running track and garden complete the circuit, uniting the building’s two primary masses and offering expansive views across the lake.
The project is targeting LEED Gold certification, with native plantings, pervious surfaces, and integrated green roofs working together to manage stormwater and reduce the urban heat island effect.
