Houston Methodist Research Institute

The Houston Methodist Research Institute is a biomedical laboratory for translational research, designed to attract the very best scientists, physicians, and engineers.

Prominently situated on the Texas Medical Center’s north campus, the 12-story facility contains six floors of open research space, housing a variety of laboratories and support spaces for the study of infectious diseases. With labs, offices, and amenities to accommodate 90 Principal Investigators across a variety of disciplines, KPF’s design provides a welcoming front door that leads to a large public atrium, enables clear and easy circulation with carefully planned wayfinding, links major public spaces, and maximizes access to natural light.

Common break-out areas connect the facility’s two programmatically-defined volumes, the curved office bar and the lab block, encouraging interdisciplinary communication and providing opportunities for informal gatherings. Together with the hospital’s KPF-designed North Campus Expansion and new Emergency Department, this endeavor transforms the Methodist Hospital System’s Houston Campus into a world-class institute.
