TCC Hangzhou Earns LEED and WELL Platinum Certifications

The mixed-use project in Hangzhou, China, has achieved the highest levels of both the LEED and WELL building standards, reflecting KPF’s continued dedication to sustainable design.

TCC Hangzhou’s sustainability certifications demonstrate the values of its primary occupant Taiwan Cement Company, one of Asia’s most progressive environmental engineering companies. Facing the Qiantang River, the building’s glass façade is engineered to maximize natural daylight penetration while minimizing heat gain and energy consumption. It expands outwards towards the river at the base to form a canopy above the building’s podium, providing space for photovoltaic panels generating on-site renewable energy. The design detail also provides a sheltered space for events on the podium roof while facilitating fresh air flow to naturally maintain the interior climate and reduce reliance on mechanical HVAC systems. The building was constructed using TCC’s own low-carbon cement, embedding environmental responsibility into its very fabric.

The LEED and WELL Platinum certifications also reflect how occupant well-being is central to sustainable design. Rooftop terraces, hanging gardens, and public courtyards maintain a constant connection to nature throughout the tower, while human-scaled pedestrian pathways and natural ventilation strategies promote movement, fresh air, and thermal comfort. Together, these features position TCC Hangzhou as a benchmark for sustainable mixed-use development in China.
