Nanning Airport Takes Terminal Design to New Heights

Architizer included the KPF-designed Terminal 2 at Nanning International Airport in a roundup of innovative airport designs.

In “Made to Fly,” Architizer looks at airport terminals that elevate design with spaces that encourage efficiency without sacrificing inspiration. The Nanning International Airport provides the capital of the growing Guanxi Region with the infrastructure to handle its increasing demand. Terminal 2 spans two million square feet with a capacity of 16 million passengers per year, and is defined by the Ovid shallow dome at its heart. The article notes that the design evokes the surrounding mountain range, while the roof canopy blends the recognizable visuals of airplane and bird wings alike. The terminal fits into a larger plan for airport expansion and connection to a train system.
