KPF Hosts Panel Discussion on East Midtown Rezoning with The Skyscraper Museum

On July 7, KPF’s New York Office hosted “Assessing East Midtown Rezoning,” organized by The Skyscraper Museum.

Nine years after the City Planning Commission and the City Council adopted the East Midtown Rezoning policy, KPF gathered industry experts to discuss the public policy’s original intentions, challenges, and outcomes to date. The panelists discussed the impact of New York City’s government efforts to revitalize the aging office district anchored by Grand Central Station, after its investments in new districts such as Hudson Yards and the World Trade Center.

The panel was moderated by Carol Willis, Director of The Skyscraper Museum, and included Vicki Been, Professor and Co-Director of NYU School of Law’s Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy; Dan Garodnick, Director of the Department of City Planning and Chair of the City Planning Commission; Purnima Kapur, Chief of University Planning and Design at Harvard University; Jonathan Mechanic, Chairman of Fried Frank’s Real Estate Department; and James von Klemperer, President and Design Principal at KPF.

The event took place on Tuesday, July 7 at 6 PM in-person at KPF’s New York office (11 W. 42 St.) and online, livestreamed on The Skyscraper Museum’s YouTube channel.
