Today, KPF Principal Forth Bagley, KPF Senior Associate Principal Britton Chambers, city officials, and representatives from Related Ross gathered in the lifestyle district of City Place to celebrate the start of construction on the KPF-designed tower.
Located at the center of a mixed-use destination in coastal Florida, 10 City Place is a new workplace tower that neighbors Rosemary Square, the Harriet Himmel Theater, and an upcoming residential development. “The site is an important nexus for City Place and greater West Palm Beach,” says Forth. “We wanted the design to reflect the overall vision of the neighborhood as a vibrant, pedestrian-focused mixed-use district.” The massing breaks down the typical rectangular shape of the tower and splits it into two interlocking forms, opening up the southwest corner and adding a terrace at the upper levels. Rounded corners ensure fluid circulation for pedestrians while a podium defined at street wall height makes the building more approachable from the sidewalk. The project offers 400,000 square feet of office space and two retail segments accessible through covered pedestrian pathways.
“Our goal for 10 City Place was to design an appropriately scaled, materially rich building that would amplify, rather than overshadow, City Place’s character. The project creates a sense of place with an engaging public realm and will become where people love to spend time,” says KPF Design Principal Ko Makabe.
The ceremony celebrated the groundbreaking of both the KPF-designed 10 City Place and Arquitectonica-designed 15 City Place. The event began with remarks by Related Ross CEO and Chairman Stephen M. Ross and Senior Vice President Jordan Rathlev, followed by a panel discussion with Mayor Keith A. James; Related Ross President Kenneth A Himmel, Arquitectonica Co-Founder Bernardo Fort Brescia; Dr. Conor Delany, CEO and President of Cleveland Clinic Florida; and Kelly Smallridge, President and CEO of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County.
