The third in a trio of downtown Chicago office towers designed by KPF, 191 North Wacker Drive both relates to its neighbors and breaks the mold with innovative and identifiable design features.
Located in the West Loop area of Chicago, the building fronts Wacker Drive, bounded by Lake Street to the north and Couch Place to the south. The siting allows for excellent views in all directions, but particularly to the west and north where the tower opens up to the Chicago river.
The design of the building had two major goals: to provide the best and most efficient office space, and to add a significant architectural expression to Chicago’s great collection of office towers. As a result, a highly visible lantern was included in the design, crowning the top of the building. The lantern contains a solid volume within an outer clear glass sleeve, diffusing light across the Chicago skyline.
