Zayed International Airport, Terminal A, in Abu Dhabi is conceived as a gateway to Abu Dhabi. The building is raised up from the road level giving the appearance of sitting on its own plateau. In this context the building is the dominant and most imposing structure on the horizon with a profile silhouetted against the sky. At night, the building’s illuminated interior reveals a monumental civic space inside the terminal and featuring structures such as the Sana Al Nour and The Shell. Recently, Terminal A was included in a roundup of the most architecturally magnificent airports in the world by the Architectural Digest.
