KPF’s new Midtown supertall was honored in the Office/Retail/Mixed Use category of the magazine’s Best Projects of 2020 program.
One Vanderbilt, which opened in September, is the tallest office tower in Midtown Manhattan. The building provides direct, below-grade connections to Grand Central, a new pedestrian plaza at street level, and cutting-edge office space. The award announcement highlights the construction process of One Vanderbilt, specifically, the use of an “advanced hoist complex to ferry workers or emergency crews all the way from the ground level to the 64th floor—a service height topping 1,100 ft.”
This year’s jury consisted of seven members coming from a range of backgrounds, from academia to city government. The winning projects were celebrated in a virtual awards event on November 16.
