Neighborhoods Now wins MASterworks Award

The Municipal Arts Society honored the Bedford-Stuyvesant initiative, developed by the Van Alen Institute and Urban Design Forum, with special recognition for its neighborhood contribution and thoughtful design solutions.

For Neighborhoods Now, KPF and collaborating firms partnered with the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation to address challenges within the neighborhood caused by COVID-19 and social inequity. The team developed design recommendations, prototypes, and installations tailor made for the Bed-Stuy community to contribute to safe, equitable, and vibrant public spaces.

The MASterworks Awards recognize projects that positively contribute to New York’s built environment. This year’s the jury gave a special honor to Neighborhoods Now: Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation for its attention to the community, from the tenant up to the neighborhood-scale.

The MASterworks Awards program was established in 2001 and will honor this year’s winners in a virtual tribute in partnership with Archtober and NYCxDesign. Learn more about this year’s awards and view all of the winners here.
