Mustafa Chehabbedine Featured in Book on Design Leadership

The KPF Design Principal was profiled in ‘Voices of Design Leadership: Insights from Top Collaborative Design Firms,’ a book by Ken Sanders that looks at the careers of 16 accomplished designers.

The interview with Mustafa charts his experience since architecture school, working across different continents for KPF, and his modes of practice that have influenced some of the firm’s most iconic buildings.

The book aims to provide inspiration for architecture students and professionals alike, through the insights, stories and projects of successful design leaders. In conversation with Ken, Mustafa described inflection points in his career, including a fundamental shift that saw him move away from producing drawings himself to overseeing up to 70 staff members on the Abu Dhabi International Airport Midfield Terminal.

Mustafa discusses the importance of defining the design language that runs throughout the Midfield Terminal and why it was vital to ensure that all team members could access and utilise this design narrative. This collaboration extends between engineers and architects in order to deliver innovative solutions on vast scales. In the words of Mustafa – “every team member has a design contribution to make – we need everyone to be creative thinkers.”
