The residential project is part of Water Street Tampa, the nation’s first WELL-certified community, which was the focus of this panel discussion.
At Greenbuild, Carlos, KPF’s Global Director of Sustainability, joined architects from CookFox and Morris Adjmi Architects, along with a representative of the International Well Building Institute for the panel “Cities Designed for People: Climate, Wellness and Nature.” The conversation focused on how the Water Street development in Tampa, Florida pioneered the WELL Community Standard, which is a district-scale program to support community health and wellness.
KPF’s contribution to this neighborhood is Heron, a LEED Gold–certified residential building whose expressive geometry is inspired by the natural forms of coral reefs and ocean waves. Aligning with the neighborhood’s wellness focus, Heron features a grocery store on the ground level, extensive plantings, access to the local Riverwalk, indoor-outdoor living opportunities, and a verdant green roof. Panelists will discuss how the WELL Community Standard supported and influenced Water Street’s design and explore each of the buildings that make up this vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood.
Greenbuild is the country’s largest gathering of sustainable architecture and design professionals and took place November 12–15 in Philadelphia, PA. Learn more here.
