John Bushell and Stig Evans Present One Crown Place to the City of Oslo

KPF Design Principal John Bushell and artist Stig Evans presented One Crown Place as part of The Colour Day 2021, an event on December 1st, organised by the Agency for Planning and Building Services of the City of Oslo (PBE).

The hybrid event, in Norwegian and English, was planned to engage a broad audience. PBE is in the process of writing a Guide for the use of Colour in Urban Areas, to place materiality and the effective use of colour high on the design agenda. This guide will be adopted as the city’s architecture policy to allow the Norwegian capital to become a leading city for innovative, diverse and beautiful architecture.

The pre-recorded presentation discussed the inspiration, development and delivery of ‘London’s Largest Painting’ a collaboration between Stig Evans and KPF. The inner facades of the residential towers address London’s cityscape and feature a composition of coloured panels, or ‘brushstrokes’. The colours, inspired by Constable’s cloud paintings and painted en plein air on site, match and contrast with the sky as the day passes, to create a kinetic experience. On the outer facades, textured terracotta in colours that reference the local context, rise the full height of the building.

The full day’s proceedings are available to view online.
