Jill Lerner quoted in The Architect’s Newspaper on New York City Housing Authority infill plan

KPF Principal Jill Lerner has spoken of the opportunities presented by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) infill plan in an article in The Architect’s Newspaper. KPF has worked alongside ARUP and OLIN to develop design interventions that will reinvigorate the neighborhood of Red Hook, Brooklyn, by including mixed-use programming and an enhanced landscape to create a sense of safety and vitality in the community. Jill Lerner said she was surprised to learn that well over half of the so-called “open space” on NYCHA’s campuses is actually fenced-off or used for parking. “There is a real opportunity to take these big sites that have tremendous amounts of beautiful open space and find a way to organize and improve it for the residents and surrounding communities.” The KPF-led project includes a transformative design for the improvement of the campus site, infrastructure and public amenities. Following the master plan, KPF will provide full services through post-construction.
