Forth Bagley Advocates for Central Social Districts in NLQ

A leader in the design and management of impactful urban projects around the world and Principal at KPF, Forth has contributed an opinion piece to the latest edition of NLQ—the quarterly publication from New London Architecture.

Cities face a confluence of pressures, from climate change to demographic shifts and an affordability crisis. Forth’s thesis is that single-use CBDs must urgently transform to become central social districts—CSDs.

“Rather than a neighbourhood driven by a single dominant use, such as offices, CSDs prioritise community activity and offer variety of programming, encouraging people to invest their most valuable commodity—their time,” Forth explains.

“The story of the next half century won’t be the death of the global city. It will be the story of cities that embrace urban innovation, transforming our highest density commercial environments into districts that accommodate the lives we all want to live.”

The magazine is aimed at everybody with an interest in London—the way it works, the way it looks, and the way its future development is being planned and delivered. Subscribe here. New London Quarterly – New London Architecture.
